About Me

Ever since I was a little kid, I have also been fascinated by blocks, Legos, and drawing. These were all ways to express my creative ideas. Now I use those skills at a much higher level to plan how cities.

Hi There! I'm Oliver Faase.

Follow Me

Outside of school I have spent the past two summer as a wildland firefighter. During my summers as a wildland firefighter in Idaho and Oregon, I worked on seven major fires—some reaching up to 30,000 acres—where I gained hands-on experience with key suppression tactics such as cutting line, holding line, back burning, and mop-up operations. As part of a 20-person handcrew, I operated in extreme conditions for 14–16-hour days, often for stretches of two weeks or more. This role taught me the value of teamwork in a tight-knit crew, the importance of staying physically and mentally fit, and how to plan and operate in high-pressure, resource-limited environments. I learned to navigate chain-of-command structures, set up fire camps, manage logistics, cook for the crew, and adapt quickly while working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I also developed a foundational understanding of fuel types, disaster preparedness, and resource planning—skills that continue to shape my approach to challenging, collaborative work.

Things I have done outside of school and Work

Since 2015, I have competed nationally in Ultimate Frisbee as both a club and collegiate athlete. I currently play for Cal Poly SLOCORE (2023–present), where I helped the team earn second place at Nationals and receive the prestigious “Spirit of the Game” award. I was honored to be named Rookie of the Year and was elected Vice President of SLOCORE for the 2024–25 season. During the COVID-19 shutdown, I took the initiative to found and lead an independent pandemic pod team, allowing us to maintain training and preserve team culture despite restrictions.

I have also played basketball and competed in the 300-meter hurdles, and the 100 and 200-meter sprints during high school.

Playing sports has taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of teamwork. Through both wins and losses, I’ve learned how to set goals, push through challenges, and support others. Sports have helped me build confidence, stay mentally and physically strong, and develop leadership skills that carry over into every part of my life.
